      How can I...

Share with my immigrant neighbor, business colleague, etc.?

We're all busy, yet in our busyness, we're relating to people all the time.  Jesus said to "Go and make disciples" or as some explain it, 'make disciples while you're going'.  In your circles of communication, whether the workplace, neighborhood, store or leisure activity, consider sharing with those individuals who are from other countries.

  • Pray

As you start each day, pray that God will empower you with His Holy Spirit so you're beginning with His perspective.

Ask God to show you your neighborhood and the people in your spheres of influence. Don't limit yourself to the family next door.  As God brings people to your mind, evaluate your relationship with them. What do you know about their life or their needs that would give you an opportunity to show you care?

  • Plan

Make a conscious effort to pursue a relationship by setting aside time for them.  It may be as simple as going into a convenience store for coffee and engaging the clerk in conversation instead of just paying for your gas at the pump.  It could include extending hospitality to someone, perhaps inviting someone over for a meal or hosting a party to introduce the individuals to others in the neighborhood at Christmas or some other holiday.  Or it might be introducing yourself to a new employee and inquiring  how it's going in their new home area.  If your schedule seems too full, consider decreasing the number of your regular activities.

  • Serve

As you get to know your neighbors, listen. Find out what they enjoy, what they struggle with, what motivates them. As you listen, you'll also discover ways in which you can become more involved in their life. Can you babysit at the last minute? Do they need help shoveling the sidewalk?  You may find the opportunity to offer to pray for them.  Many coming from overseas are more in tune with spiritual issues than the typical American.

  • Give

Give them a gift.  Gift giving and receiving is welcomed in other cultures.  While the gift of time is perhaps our most precious gift, sometimes a simple gesture of friendship - a baked item or a meal, a card, or perhaps even something in their mother-tongue language like the JESUS film, a book, or the New Testament if the relationship has progressed that far. Several multi-language JESUS Film DVDs have been produced and are available for churches, organizations or individuals to give out to friends, neighbors or business associates.  Please click here to see our partner's webpage - CCCi's Peoples Connection Initiative - for more info.

  • Be yourself

People are people the world over, and all are created in God's image.  What is important to us will probably be many of the same things important to them.  Be sure to communicate early in your relationship that you are a follower of Jesus Christ.  It is part of your spiritual pilgrimage, and will help establish a relationship of trust with them if they know where you're coming from.  It may even open the door to further questions.

Engage my church in reaching out to our immigrant neighborhoods?

In contacting your church, pray and ask God to direct you to the appropriate person(s) in your church.  Once you've made that decision, contact them and share your heart and vision for this kind of outreach.  Be prepared to engage in the activity yourself.

Materials are available to help give the church leadership some ideas on what kinds of outreach can be implemented.  The outreach can be shared by a small group of individuals or the entire church congregation.  Please register and mention that you'd like additional information on how your church can become involved we'll gladly send you some specific ideas as well as a testimony of one church pastor's engagement in this idea.

Within the church calendar, Holy Days (holidays) like Thanksgiving, Christmas, Easter and even Pentecost provide wonderful opportunities for a church body to step outside their walls and welcome those new to the community.

SPECIAL CHURCH OPPORTUNITY! -

“CHURCH GRASS-ROOTS” – Church-based community sharing of the multi-language JF DVDs with immigrants!

There are tens of thousands of churches in the United States, and each is in some way near immigrants from another land.  Multi-language DVD kits are now available with varied selections of the assorted multi-language DVDs inside (south Asian, East Asian, SE Asian and SW Asian).

South Asian Languages              Chinese Languages              Vietnamese Languages              Middle Eastern Languages

Available at $2.50 each, or $125 for a box of fifty, this assortment plus the poster announcing their availability to a church provides a challenge for the local body to pick up a few of the DVDs as an evangelistic tool to those international persons around them – at the office, in the neighborhood, at the corner store — and to provide them with the DVD in their language.  If a church member puts a suggested donation of $4.00 into the box for each DVD they take, the opportunity pays for itself, eliminating the cost to the church, and helps ensure continued availability of the tool for outreach as time goes on.

Churches are looking for “turn-key” opportunities – this one provides an “ice-breaker” or simple gift, given in love, to the international person.  EVEN if they don’t take the DVD, a relationship has begun, and some other type of interaction can ensue.

Join today in the “WAVE of LOVE” that is beginning to sweep the nation for Jesus!

Contact us on the registration page or call (704) 684-1535 for additional information, or you can order boxes of DVDs and a poster direct from our partner - Peoples Connection Initiative or by calling (800) 381-0911.

Participate in a large outreach near me?

Great question!  Please click here to check out the calendar page and see if any of the events listed are near you.

For many of our outreaches, we work in partnership with networks of organizations and churches that share in reaching immigrants in metro areas.  Your participation may be in your own city, or it may mean driving a distance to help in one of the opportunities.  Some volunteers have flown across the country to assist!  If you don't see any listed in an area you want to participate in, e-mail us and we'll see if another opportunity is available through one of our network partners.

Be involved in immigrant outreach in a city in the U.S.?

Several of our partners and networks across the country are regularly planning outreaches to share the Gospel in various metro regions across the United States.  Some of these are listed on the calendar, but it is not an exhaustive list.   If you don't see any in your area, please click here to be redirected to the "Register" page on this site and ask about your particular area in the comments box.  We'll contact you directly with currently available information.

In other areas, partner organizations have undertaken doing outreach to entire neighborhoods with wonderful results.  A document containing the process of how one outreach went is available upon request; several thousand families were reached within a few hours. Click here to be redirected to "Register" page and ask for the neighborhood outreach document.

Find other organizations who are engaged in similar outreach?

There are many organizations which have an interest in ministering to immigrants in the USA.  Some are large; others are small.  Some are focused on this aspect of ministry full-time; for others, it is a portion of what they do.

Please click here to be redirected to our "Partnerships" page where you'll find a list of some of the organizations involved in this ministry work.  For additional partner names or questions about this, please register and ask your question in the comments box.
